Jamie Tate Gallery Talk Friday, October 16

On Friday, October 16 the Attic Gallery in downtown Vicksburg begins a new series of Art exhibitions/gallery talks they are calling "Artists in the Living Room." The first featured artist will be Jamie Tate, a painter from Stoneville in the Mississippi Delta. The exhibition begins at 7 PM and Tate will be speaking at about 8.

"We are trying a new approach to how we host a show," Lesley Silver, owner of the Attic said. "We wanted to personalize the art even more, so that all in attendance make the connection that has always been so important to me: The paintings are not products or decorations; they are art created by the hand and mind of an artist. I think of her paintings as emotional, nonobjective landscapes of the Mississippi Delta. Jamie may tell us about her ideas, her techniques, her life: it's up to her; but I want everyone to get to know her better."

"Also since our space is changing, we wanted to find a way to make it work in a new way. The third floor of the Attic Gallery is being transformed into a space that will serve double duty as both a fun place to see art and meet artists, and as our living room. I thought this was a fitting way to celebrate the 38th anniversary of the Attic, because the Attic grew from me selling art in the living room at my home to a few mothers of attendees of my daughter's birthday party back in 1971. Now we are building our home in the Gallery. It's a coming full circle for me.

Our third floor is really a construction site now, but we want to continue to hold openings as long as it is practical. I think it will be an adventure for people to see how the space has changed even since August. Our new apartment is shaping up."

The Gallery is located at 1101 Washington Street and the public is invited to the event. There is no admission. For more details call 601 638 9221
